Lithuania's Legal System: Trends and Perspectives

Dear Colleagues,
LABAS, together the Center for Public Affairs at Elon University in North Carolina, USA, and the Lithuanian Lawyers Association (Lietuvos
teisininku draugija, or LTD), will present a legal professionals conference preliminarily entitled "Lithuania's Legal System: Trends and Perspectives" to take place July 24-28, 2006 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Click here for the program topics and speakers.
There will be presentations from the Lithuanian point of view on Lithuania's institutional changes in the rule of law, including in its
legislative, judicial and political systems, as well as Lithuania's future needs in these areas. Conference updates will follow to those who register, and will be posted on our website. We urge
you to register as soon as possible so that we can plan appropriately.
Location. The first two full days of the conference (Tuesday July 25 and Wednesday July 26) will be held in The American
Center of the U.S. Embassy located in Old Town, at Pranciskonu 3/6. The Center can accommodate up to 200 people and has modern facilities for translation services and teleconferencing. The City
Park Hotel <www.citypark.lt> will continue to serve as local headquarters for our programs that week.
Registration. Conference
registration remains open at $200 per person. This fee will include meeting materials, translation services, and lunch on July 25 and 26. $150 of the registration fee is non-refundable to help
will defray costs for the conference. In addition, there is a $50 per travel companion fee for those who would like to attend the formal program on July 25 and 26 at The American Center. This
travel companion fee is not refundable.
Hotel Accommodations. LABAS is no longer taking direct hotel reservations. Several hotel rooms are still available of those set aside for
conference attendees at the City Park Hotel on a first-come, first served basis. You may now reserve your hotel rooms without prepayment by directly contacting the travel agency working with us, Visit
Lithuania. The travel agent working with us is Monika Petrauskaite. She speaks and writes in English and can also assist with other travel needs or housing arrangements, including apartments:

In addition to registering for this conference, we urge you to also become a member, by completing the 2006 membership application
on our membership page. Adding your name to our list of members in good standing for 2006 means a lot to us. Your dues payment will identify you as a supporter of our efforts, whether or not
you are able to actively participate in LABAS meetings and programs. Membership also entitles you to a listing, if you consent, in our on-line membership directory with a short biography and your
areas of practice.
