July 7, 2009 - Program In Vilnius LABAS joined representatives of the Lithuanian legal community to celebrate the rule of law. This one-day program celebrated Lithuania’s resurgence of the Rule of Law since 1991 and its tradition of democratic institutions. Lithuania’s first written statutes were enacted in the 1500s, beginning with the Statutes of 1529, 1566 and 1588. 3.5 MCLE credit was available for attending attorneys from the USA.

May 9, 2009 - Annual Membership Meeting. The 2009 Annual Membership meeting was held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Cary, Illinois, near Chicago at 213 West Lake Shore Drive. The business meeting was followed by an open discussion and lunch. 

November 29, 2008 - LABAS hosted a luncheon at the Two Rivers restaurant in Lemont, Illinois on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., with guest Professor Tadas Klimas, who served as Chief Legal Counsel to the Chairman of Parliament of Lithuania, Dean of Vytautas Magnus School of Law in Kaunas and authored a number of bills in Lithuania among other accomplishments. Professor Klimas is a long-time friend of LABAS.

May 31, 2008 - Annual Membership Meeting was held at the home of Regina and Bernard Narusis in Cary, Illinois.

2006 Conference in Vilnius a Success

   On July 25-26, 2006, LABAS, together the Center for Public Affairs at Elon University in North Carolina, USA, and the Lithuanian Lawyers Association (Lietuvos teisininku draugija, or LTD), concluded a successful legal professionals’ conference entitled “Lithuania’s Legal System: Trends and Perspectives.” Our delegation consisted of 30 participants and invited speakers. Together with 90 of our Lithuanian colleagues, we heard the Lithuanian point of view on Lithuania’s progress and concerns regarding its court and legislative system. LABAS is grateful to our host for the conference, the U.S. Embassy, which provided us space at The American Center in Old Town Vilnius.
